Wendy Bell: "I work because I feel moved to. It is one way that I deal with information - a response to something that I have seen, heard, or felt; a reflection of an experience, or an attempt to understand; a part of my personal processing of information. It helps me to express myself and understand who I am and the world in which I live. It is a present-time effort, although at times influenced by events or people from the past.

By exposing myself to as many new and different experiences or sights as possible, I take in information that provides raw material for my work. Areas of continued interest for me are landscapes and natural elements, the body and how it expresses emotion, architectural structures or details, and the concept of contrasting personal perspectives. The variety of ways in which anything may be defined and understood, fascinates me. Watching a dance performance, learning how Braille is printed, noticing patterns of stones on sidewalks are recent experiences reflected in my work. I never know what might trigger my curiosity, interest and be expressed in a future piece. I keep a journal to reflect and collect thoughts, impressions and sketches. I then work spontaneously and allow the form of my response to these inputs to flow without editing."
